Changing with the seasons
Opening and closing swimming pools
You can use your swimming pool year-round or only during the warmer months. Many of our customers “open” their pools in March through June for the swimming season, taking full advantage of the warmer temperatures, and “close” them in September or October as the seasons change.
Opening and closing your swimming pool properly is essential for maintaining its condition and preventing any issues during periods of non-use.
In the summer, opening your pool involves removing the cover, reconnecting equipment, balancing the water chemistry, and checking the filtration system to ensure a clean and safe swimming environment.
Winterisation, or closing the pool, is crucial to protect it from damage during the coldest months. This process includes cleaning the pool, lowering the water level, adding winterizing chemicals, and covering the pool with a winter cover to prevent debris accumulation and freezing issues. Performing these seasonal tasks helps extend the life of your pool and makes maintenance easier year-round.
Our team is here to help with opening and closing your swimming pool, taking this task off your to-do list.

The best way to prevent algae buildup is to maintain a good water balance, regularly brush and vacuum the pool, and use an algaecide as needed. Ensuring good water circulation also helps keep algae at bay.The time frame can vary depending on the complexity of the design and the size of the pool, but typically, the process from initial consultation to completion takes between 8 to 12 weeks. Custom designs or more complex projects may take longer.
-
We recommend that your pool is professionally inspected at least once a year, checking all the pipework, plant equipment, water quality, and structural integrity of the actual swimming pool, that may not be obvious to the untrained eye.
-
Cloudy water can result from imbalanced water chemistry, poor filtration, or the presence of fine debris. Please get in touch and we can help get your pool back to crystal-clear waters, by adjusting the levels of the water, as well as checking that the filter is working properly.
-
We recommend covering the swimming pool with a cover when the pool is not in use, especially during hot and windy conditions. A cover also stops leaves and debris from entering the water, which can make the water cloudy and unpleasant to swim in.
-
It's recommended to clean your pool at least once a week, including skimming debris, brushing the walls, and vacuuming the floor. Regular cleaning helps maintain water quality and prevents algae buildup.
-
Balancing water chemistry involves testing and adjusting pH, alkalinity, and chlorine levels. This should be done weekly to ensure safe and clean water. Our team use testing kits to monitor and adjust these levels.
-
You should backwash your pool filter when the pressure gauge indicates a rise above the normal operating level, or at least once a month. Regular backwashing helps maintain proper filtration and water clarity.
-
If the water appears cloudy, has a strong chlorine smell, or if the chlorine levels are low after heavy usage, your pool may need a shock treatment. Shocking the water with chemicals helps eliminate contaminants and restore water clarity.
